My second visit to Terre Rouge. The large abandoned steelworks in Luxembourg.
Nearing the end of the first day of a tour with Proj3ct M4yh3m, Behind Closed Doors and one other we popped in here for a few shots.
Having been closed for nearly twenty years a lot of the site is now just wasteland and not much remains.
Production began here around 1870. In 1911 some independent steel companies merged to form Arbed who became the third largest steel manufacturer in Europe.
In 1965 one of the largest and most advanced blast furnaces in the world was installed here which helped the company reach its peek in 1974. From then things dwindled fast.
Three years after the peek the blast furnaces ceased production. However it was still another twenty years until the rest of the site closed.
You may also wish to check Terre Rouge. For my original visit.
When we finished here we wandered across the wasteland to check out Centrale Thermique, a power station that was powered from the gas created by the blast furnaces here.
