Centrale Thermique is an abandoned power station on the site of an old steelworks in Luxembourg.
Accompanied by Behind Closed Doors, Proj3ct M4yh3m and one other we wandered across the wasteland from Terre Rouge. I guess this is where the blast furnaces were, now its just rubble and bushes. We finally arrive and its clear to see that demolition is in progress with porta-cabins and diggers outside. Its getting late on a Saturday evening so its all nice and quiet. After a short wander round we find access and venture into the site.
Demolition here is well under way. Large piles of crushed pipework are outside and its clear inside that a large amount inside has been stripped out.
Built in 1951 and powered by a new technique using gas from the local blast furnaces. The gas released from the melting of steel was piped over to run the power station which supplied local industry and homes with electricity.
When the last local blast furnace shut down in 1997 the power plant became defunct and also shut down.
Demolition is planned to be completed sometime in 2016.
