Abandoned vintage power plant AKA Wet Dogs: Belgium April 2018

This vintage power plant can be found on the Carsid site, North West of the HF4 blast furnace. This is the only location on the site I have visited that is South of the River Sambre. We did have a good look around grabbing a few shots here and there but never found anything worthwhile. The blast furnace and the main steelworks were amidst demolition and there is a lot more live sites South of the river.

This seems to be the original power station for the blast furnace and dates back to the early 1900’s. Two turbines each with their own rotary converters stand at the end of the hall. Sadly the rotary converters had been partly stripped when I finally got to visit the site. After the rotary converters we find a pair of blowers for the blast furnace and then random control panels and a fair amount of junk.

We noticed there was an attached building which wasn't accessible from the main hall. We had a good look round outside and eventually found a smaller turbine hall. The wandering of the wastelands finally paid off and we found something new.

This smaller hall was clearly an extension to the original plant. It would of been added due to the increased demand of the rest of the site as it expanded.

Three small generating sets were found inside sadly all that remains of the old control panel is a shadow mark on the floor. It had been replaced with a more modern panel with lights and buttons.

Even with these five generating sets as the site expanded they were not enough to power site. At some point all the power generating was transferred to the Blue Power Station North of the river.
