The school
The Chapel
Another set from the archives.
This stunning abandoned building was built at the turn of the 20th century. A junior school was added nearby in 1929 and its numbers peaked at around 800 pupils.
The junior school closed in 1970 and the building is still in use today. The senior school which you see here closed in 1977 and was used by the United States International University.
Both schools have been used in numerous films, including Monty Pythons "Meaning Of Life" "Indiana Jones and the last crusade" and "Out Of Bounds". Even TV shows such as "Eastenders" and "The Avengers" have filmed here.
Renovation work to convert the whole site into expensive flats, was well underway. Even completed with residents in some parts during this visit. A total of 200 were planned. As of 2010 the price for a three bedroom penthouse was a cool £2.5m.
It would of been amazing to see some more of it before the work began. As during my research I have found some stunning features, which only a few well off people will have the pleasure of seeing. As luck would have it. This is now known as Royal Conaught Park and I did mange to grab a few sneaky images of the grand entrance during a later visit.
