Originally A country house and parkland.
From what I can tell the house was used by the Red Cross as a military hospital during WWI. During the mid 1900's more buildings were added to the site to build a sanatorium.
During WWI it was used as a medical centre by the US army. After the war the site was taken on by the NHS. The site specialised in respiratory, orthopaedics and rheumatology. A lot of the patients were form the Forest Of Dean where some of the coal miners had severe respiratory problems.
Due to a miscalculation of funds the hospital closed in 2004.
Recent news articles suggest that work will be going on here soon to build 120 new homes.
Sadly access was limited here but I hope you enjoy.
