After a brief stop for coffee and a debate about what country we were actually in, Maša Kores Photography, As The Light Slowly Fades and myself headed on to our next location.
After a long walk up a steep winding driveway we finally arrive at our goal.
The site was purchased in 1922 and construction was completed in 1927. However after completion the sanatorium never opened. It was not economically viable due to the running costs, being in such a remote area transport links were poor and it was built in a wealthy area. There was also debates as to wether the climate was suitable for the treatment of tuberculosis.
Two years later the site found its purpose and opened as a childrens care home.
In 1974 it partly became a psychiatric hospital and it eventually the whole site closed in 1985.
How it has been left abandoned so long is beyond me. A prime location for a hotel with stunning views from the large number of balconies and plenty of sightseeing in the area. I believe it could well of been a prosperous venture. Sadly for whatever reason it lays empty and unused. I have no idea of what the future will bring. The structure seems sound but after thirty years of neglect it could well be cheaper to knock it down than attempt to repair this poor building.
