Nuffield Health Hospital Cambridge: UK December 2015

This abandoned hospital started out life as the Evelyn Nursing home. Founded by C Morland Agnew after his wife Evelyn had an unpleasant experience at another Cambridge nursing home.

At the time it was the only nursing home to contain its own operating theatre, it also served the local community with basic healthcare.

In 1974 a modernisation program was started aimed at specialising in surgical cases and later in 1983 the name was changed to Evelyn hospital to reflect this modernisation program.

Moving forward to 2003 the site was sold to the Nuffield Hospitals Group who still serve on the site today.

With the growth of the area the hospital struggled to keep up with the needs of the local community. A larger modern building was built on site to accommodate these extra needs. After transferring patients and equipment demolition was quickly under way. Some of the more modern buildings had been totally stripped when I visited here, luckily the best was saved for last and I was able to see some of the nicer parts.
