The original foundation stone was laid in 1889 and the hospital opened in 1890 at a cost of £2000
With a capacity of only five beds expansion was soon imminent and in 1897 building started on a new ward to provide ten more beds.
With population increasing due to the rise of local industry the hospitals had to keep up with the growth and by 1928 there was a total of 108 beds at the hospital.
In 1950 another expansion was undertook and this gave ward space for a further sixty beds.
With patients being transferred to other more modern facilities, the hospital finally closed in 1992.
In 1994 the site was sold to developers with plans for a new housing scheme. For whatever reasons this sadly fell through.
In June 2013 the decision was made to clear the site. Before demolition could commence a number of bats had to be re-homed as they had made the hospital there home.
As of now demolition is complete, but I am not sure what has happened to the site since.
