Having had delayed flights I finally arrive in Italy a little later than expected with As The Light Slowly Fades. We are both greeted by Maša Kores Photography who has been waiting a fair few hours for us by now. Was great to be re-united with Maša as it had been over two years since we last met.
We get our hire car and choose a random nearby location off the sat-nav to squeeze one spot in before the light slowly fades.
We find ourselves at an old abandoned psychiatric hospital.
Built in 1873 the whole site covered around 320,000 square metres.
During the early 1900's new forms of therapy were introduced here in the forms of art music and physical exercise.
The hospital finally closed in 1999, it seems a lot of the site has been converted into residential homes and I believe a few parts have been demolished.
I doubt we even had an hour here and only covered two buildings before it became too dark to shoot and we headed on to our planned accommodation for the night. Just as we were leaving I thought I spotted some glow worms. Then I realised their movement was far too erratic. It was the first time I had witnessed the wonder of fire flies. We watched them briefly and it was a sign that this trip was going to be rather good.
