You could be forgiven for thinking there is just an overgrown park or cemetery behind the rusty gates of the walled complex as you arrive at the grounds of this abandoned hospital. As we were walking up the winding driveway we wondered if it was even still there.
The hospital here opened at the turn of the 20th century specialising in respiratory illness. There was apace for around 120 patients to stay here during their treatment.
The hospital finally closed in 1990 with plans to become a care home for the elderly. For some reason this never came to light other than a brief stint during 1996 while the hospital became a haven for Rwanden refugees, the hospital has been abandoned ever since.
If no action is taken soon this building will be lost amongst the trees forever.
