An abandoned barracks in the centre of a busy town in Italy.
We were on our way to our hotel for the night when I spotted a large building which I believed to be abandoned.
Luckily it was just round the corner from our hotel. So after dinner armed with only an IPhone for light we went and had a look around. Access was fairly easy and it certainly showed some promise. we decided to return in the morning for a proper look and grab a few shots.
Barracks have been based on this site since the 15th century, I am unsure if these are the original buildings if so they have undergone some renovations in their time. Original use was for a convent but this changed for some reason and the military acquired the buildings. There are four buildings in total and two are left unused, the larger building which we never gained access to had plans to become a library but after work on the external structure this never came to light.
It was compulsory for teenage males to serve in the military for one year before venturing into the world on their own, I am guessing this contributed to the closure of this site and many others across the country.
