The Power Station.
The colliery opened here early in the 20th century to provide coal for the Great Western Railway. Due to the low sulphur content of the coal in the area it was perfect fuel for the blast furnaces of Port Talbot and in 1957 the coke works started producing high grade coke.
The colliery closed here in 1986 and the coke works later closed in 2002 and has laid dormant since. Outline planning permission was granted for redevelopment of the site to build 800 new homes with stipulations on some listed buildings to be kept. However at an estimated cost of £10 million just to clear the site the project has not even started.
