While checking out the North part of the Carsid site we had a quick look around the cokeworks. It seems to get missed a fair bit due to the other main attractions on the site. With a strong love for industry we thought it be rude not to have a look around. Just a quick look around as we were hoping to find something new that hadn’t been documented before.
The plant opened in 1952 to supply the nearby blast furnace.
The main customers to the site was the local car manufactures this industry took a massive turn in 2008 which prompted the closure of the blast furnace and obviously the cokeworks. The sites were left in standby hoping for a revival in the automotive industry sadly this never happened and demolition of the site has been ongoing slowly for sometime.
