A large abandoned industrial site in the UK. The main produce of the site was acetate.
The British Celanese site was constructed between 1916-1918 and over 30million bricks were used during the construction.
In 1942 this was the first factory in the UK to produce propylene and from it isopropyl alcohol and acetone.
Parts of the site have been closing over the years and at the time of these visits only a small part was still live. After near on 100 years of production at this site, demolition is now under way.
The main building was definitely the cleanest factory building I have had the pleasure of exploring. It still had power on, the lights worked and even the lift!! I thought it best not to actually use it though. Then as you venture further into the site you find a less clean and pristine side. With lots of decay and foliage as nature is taking over.
