The abandoned Bellersbys College or Bellboys college in West Sussex was built in 1885, and designed by Aldophus Croft as a country house called South Park.
Built in the Queen Anne style, half timbered with ornamental red brick. Internally no expense was spared. Most of the rooms are in a renaissance style other than the drawing room which is in the Adam style.
In 1890 Aldophus Crofts brother Arthur Croft, a notable artist was resident here. Some of Crofts paintings now reach in excess of £2000.
Around 1930 South Park became Wadhurst College, a boarding school for girls. In the 1980's there were connections with the Legat Ballet School, and in the early 1990's the name changed to Micklefield Wadhurst. In 1997 it became known as Bellerbys College and still seems to keep this name today.
It closed in December 2001 and has been left abandoned ever since. Even though it has passed through a number of owners since the closure only two planning applications have been submitted since 2004.
In 2009 it was grade ii listed but sadly that has not improved things in the slightest. In fact some of the reasons for the listing are due to the fact it was fine example of Renaissance and Adam style. Sadly as you can see its not the finest example anymore.
First location on a busy weekend with Behind Closed Doors and a few others.
