The Monsal Trail follows the route of a former section of the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway. Built in 1863 by Midlands Railway to link Manchester to London. In 1968 the line was closed and remained unused for 12 years until the Peak District National Park took over.
The trail opened in 1981 and is around 8 miles in length and follows through the valley of the River Wye.
As the trail winds through the beautiful valley it goes through tunnels and over bridges. Also before you reach the trail you pass Cowdale Lime works. The buildings here have an Egyptian style to them which is quite strange to see coming out of the hill side.
So we can guess what the subject matter is going to be here. Also the trail passes along two large viaducts only one is in use and the other is now overgrown and rusty.
Something a bit different and I hope you enjoy the images.
